The Decision Analysis System (DAS), is an innovative software package which
will provide you with a formal, analytical approach, to decision and
problem analysis. Using proven scientific methods, DAS will help you to
avoid intuition and speculation, while preserving such qualitative factors
as experience and judgment.
DAS is not a 'black box' program! It uses a number of proven, well
established Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) algorithms and
provides numerical results for each stage in the analysis. The use of
popular, well established algorithms is especially important to such users
as educational institutions, government agencies and consultants.
Consultants, who for example, are taxed to recommend the location for a new
garbage dump, need a tool which will evaluate possible alternatives with as
little bias as possible. Their recommendations will need to stand up to
public scrutiny, and the public hearing process which usually takes place
before a site is actually selected. This is where the use of well
established decision analysis algorithms is useful. They can be explained
and defended because quite a bit of research has gone into them!
This sophisticated package contains two separate decision analysis
programs. One program utilizes a decision matrix to evaluate alternatives
based on tangible criteria. The second program employs pairwise comparisons
and a hierarchical problem structure which allows the use of subjective,
intangible factors in the decision analysis.
Because of it's ability to allow the user to easily quantify subjective or
intangible factors, DAS may be used beyond the traditional decision or
problem analysis type of situations. One example might be taste testing a
new food or beverage product.
